Open Bite Braces Update

This surgery was the most painful thing I think I will ever go through, I found out I was allergic to morphine and I’m already allergic to penicillin so those are the drugs they typically use and I have been in large amounts of pain, I will be posting videos every Monday, thank u for watching

  1. Wow, your speech really cleared up! Did you get therapy or did the lisp go away automatically once the openbite went away? I've got a prominent open bite but I can't detect any lisp by sound. I can only see the tongue peeking through the gaps which makes it looks like lisp.

  2. I have a open bite, over bite, and cross bite. I have braces right now. I don't need to get surgery. I'm just gonna get 2 molars pulled at the top. My aunt had the same thing, and she didn't need surgery. My teeth are looking better each month. I'm happy with how much my teeth have moved. I only had my braces for 3 months.

  3. Hi, Kelly! I have an open bite too but in perspective i gonna have braces on. So please can u  tell me how long have u been wearing the tongue crib? i saw this was the real difficulty for u to speak with it…. i m not willing to do the surgery too, it defeats me… so please tell did u make yo mind to do surgery anyway, or is it possible to do without it? i liked your video without braces with the right bite, its fantastic, well done!

  4. Omg….i never thought an open bite could be corrected, mine looks the way yours did. Your outcome looks so good i want mines done!

  5. Omg this is so relieving. I've googled for days and I'm glad that I'm not going to get surgery or anything or that sort like a foreign dentist said I would need too. Anyway I'm glad that I came across this video! My open bite isn't bad. Your teeth look good!

  6. Wow looks nice.  I have braces for an open bite, too.  Looking forward to my teeth looking great like that.

  7. Amazing progress!

  8. Wow amazing!!! i have an open bite (smaller than urs) due to thumb sucking(bummer) i was given a retainer 2 wear day & night which was supposed 2 help me stop sucking my thumb. I also have a slight lisp when saying certain words which can be so embarrassing! Before gettin my braces my ortho suggested surgery but i refused she said that i only have a 1mm gap and it would be pointless. i couldnt imagine going through with jaw surgery – eek! anyway i hope my teeth look as good as your when im done!

  9. I just got my braces for my open bite

  10. Hi!
Not sure if someone asked this already, but I am wondering how long it took you to be able to speak "normal" again while wearing the tongue crib? I just got mine and I'm so frustrated with it!! I can't pronounce anything, and I cannot wait to be able to speak properly again! :P

  11. I have an open bite too. Were they sort of telling you to get surgery or did they say it's your choice? And does every orthodontist have a tongue crib? Should i ask my ortho can i

  12. Hi, I have an open bite as well. I think it's kind of awesome that you decided against surgery and told your ortho you aren't willing to do it. My orthodontist has referred me to an oral surgeon, but I havent' gone yet. I am terrified of jaw surgery. Did your ortho say that jaw surgery was definitely needed in your case?

  13. During my consultation my orthodontist mentioned that sometimes surgery was necessary. I said I wasn't willing to do it, so she put the braces on with the tongue crib.

  14. Thank you for sharing your story, I have a very similar open bite to yours but have been told the only way to correct it is through braces and surgery. Were you ever offered surgery or did your orthodontist know from the start that they could correct your bite with just braces? Thanks

  15. Thanks for sharing your progress. You look great. How has your speech improved?

  16. I really like the tongue crib. I have a removable one that I can wear while im at home. I can imagine that not having the appliance makes it difficult for you. The tongue crib corrected things I couldn't see or I didn't realize I was doing. for example I noticed that I was pushing my tongue forward while I drank from glasses and that I was doing it while I was sleeping. These are things I never would have noticed without the crib.
good luck though, im sure it'll work out :)

  17. Thanks for replying. The speech has helped somewhat, but we have to nag her to do the speech exercises. We also have to remind her all the time that she has her tongue sticking out. The orthodontist says that they use to treat the open bite caused by tongue thrust, with the appliance (like the one you got), but now they use speech therapy instead. The appliance makes more sense to me because you have it constantly in your mouth stopping the tongue from going forward.

  18. I only had the tongue crib. Have the speech exercises been helpful for your daughter?

  19. I had my permanent tongue crib with my braces and now I have a removable tongue crib for sleeping

  20. Would you recommend the surgery?

  21. What would I do if I were to be sick with my teeth still wired closed?

  22. I have to get surgery for sure because I have an open bite and my chin is connected to my neck.. I have braces for almost 3 weeks and I also have to chew with my back teeths.. I'm not sure if it's for both my jaws are just one. My question tho is how do you brush your teeth after surgery lol ?

  23. This video literally scared me, I'm not sure if I want to get my open jaw surgery done now. :'(

  24. hi im vince,
i have a large open bite. (about a 1/2 inch from my top teeth to my bottom). i will soon do something to correct this problem. how long will it take after the surgery til your mouth is normal? (i have many questions) thanks

  25. Being allergic to penicillin should by makeup allergic to morphine yet completely different but u will have less powerful drug like I did for te post surgery at home because of our penicillin problem. You will be able to speak but u will drool a lot and be very numb, I suggest staying out of workfor a while like 2 months and I had double jaw surgery as we'll they cut y mouth open in 3 pieces on top and 3 on bottom

  27. Oh my god. Seeing how much pain you're going through is terrifying me. I'm allergic to penicillin and seftin, too! What if I end up being allergic to morphine?! AHH. If I got the surgery in early July, do you think I'd look good and speak right by early October? The problem with me is that it isn't JUST the open bite I have to get fixed. I have to have a DOUBLE jaw surgery. I don't know if it's even worth it. I'm so scared.

  28. You are so brave. I have to get this surgery done and I am scared.

  29. Hope you'll be fine soon!
